Overview & Highlights

If you find yourself in Topeka, Kansas, hungry for some finger-licking good barbecue, look no further than Smokey Dunks, a food truck that has quickly become a local favorite among barbecue enthusiasts. Serving up honest-to-goodness smoked meats in generous portions, this hidden gem is a must-try for anyone who cherishes rich, flavorful BBQ.

Stepping up to the Smokey Dunks food truck, the tantalizing aroma of slow-smoked meats wafts through the air, promising a feast for your senses. The menu is a testament to the art of barbecue, featuring a variety of mouthwatering dishes. A standout option is their Burnt End Chili, a smoky delight that combines chunks of tender burnt ends with rich chili flavors, served in a 16 oz. portion for just $12. For those craving classic barbecue, the Slab of Ribs ($37) is an indulgent choice, offering succulence and flavor that falls off the bone. If you're looking for something more manageable, try the Rib Meal or the Burnt Ends Meal, both affordably set at $20 and served with your choice of two sides, making them perfect for those who want a filling meal without breaking the bank.

Speaking of sides, the Mac and Cheese ($3.75) is creamy and comforting, a perfect accompaniment to any main dish. Customers rave about the Cheesy Potatoes and Cheesy Corn, both generously assembled to complement the robust flavors of the meats. The portions are not only generous but are sure to satisfy even the heartiest appetites, providing exceptional value for the price.

The atmosphere of Smokey Dunks is casual and inviting, with the friendly food truck vibe that makes it feel like a neighborhood gathering spot. However, reviews have noted some inconsistencies in service. While many patrons have reported enjoying their visits, others have pointed out moments where the staff could express more warmth and engagement. For example, customer feedback mentions a mix of attentive and less enthusiastic service, indicating that while the food shines, the experience can vary depending on the day. Nevertheless, the food certainly outshines any woes about service.

Don't just take my word for it; customer experiences speak volumes. Rick shared excitement upon arrival, noting the buzz around the delicious BBQ, while others like Jason expressed sheer delight over every bite, emphasizing that everything from the cheesecakes to burnt ends hits the mark. Linda highlighted the "huge portions" and "delicious" offerings, further proving that Smokey Dunks delivers more than just a meal; it serves a culinary performance.

So whether you're a local seeking your next BBQ fix or a visitor passing through, make a stop at Smokey Dunks. Pull up to this food truck to savor delectable dishes that embody the essence of BBQ, served up with a side of local charm. You won’t regret indulging in the smoky goodness that awaits you!

We got some food from Smokey Dunks today. We got some ribs and jerk chicken on rice plus some sides. Overall we were very pleased with the ribs and chicken. The jerk sauce was nice and spicy with a touch of sweetness and smokey Ness. The ribs were nice and tender and went great with the BBQ sauce. We also got cheesy taters and the Mac. The Mac was nice and creamy and went well with the ribs. Again we were very pleased with what we got especially for the price we paid. We plan on coming for more again!

Atmosphere/Service: When we first arrived, there were to younger men working the trailer, and an older gentleman off to the side, talking to what i assume was his friend, beside the only other vehicle there. I was excited to try the place after reading so many good reviews. I walked up and said, "I hear you got the best BBQ in Topeka!" One of the young men just muttered something I couldn't understand, and the other didn't look up from his phone. I then asked if there was a meal with 1 lb rib tips similar to the 1 lb of burnt ends. He said "No, but you can just order the sides on the side." I placed my order, asked how long they had been there, and he told me 4 years. This was the extent of the conversation. Not the most welcoming place I've been to, for sure Food: We ordered one pound of rib tips and one pound of burnt ends. We ordered mac&cheese, baked beans, cheesy corn, and cheesy potatoes for sides. The burnt ends were kinda hit and miss. Some were good, but some were very tough hard to even chew. Overall, they were smoked nicely with good flavor. The rib tips were wonderful. (My personal favorite) The sides were not what I expected and were quite unique. The flavor was great, but you would think they would be larger when ordering them with a pound of meat. (Not nearly enough for the 4 people I was feeding.) (I would recommend doubling up on the sides if you're in a similar situation.) Bottom line: Not the best experience, (they even forgot to include the baked beans!) however the food was of good quality. I don't like to give up on a place after one visit, and I'm willing to go back the next time I'm craving some rib tips. Maybe it was an off night, we were early in the dinner window, so maybe they weren't quite in rhythm yet. I will update when/if I return.

Delicious and on point from the cheese cake to the burnt ends. The cheese potatoes are amazing too everything has the smoked taste!!!! I’d recommend them to anyone next time through this town they’re my go to

The food is AMAZING, but…. The service was a lacklustre. Avoided eye contact, had earbuds in their ears… …they weren’t rude, per se, but come on, take the AirPods out of your ears, smile and look at me. One fellow with vitiligo looked absolutely *terrified* of me. Like, am I that intimidating? Or did I pop by on a bad day? I’m a Canadian roadtripper touring the USA, so I’m definitely not local, so that could be a factor… …but a bump in friendlier, warmer interpersonal skills wouldn’t hurt. ANYWAYS…. The aroma brought me to the food truck. I was on my way to a burger joint when I smelled the barbecue. I would much rather patronize a local business over an international franchise, so… I’ve had remarkable luck with local eateries… …this was a *fine* culinary discovery. The brisket was amazing. Tender, melted in your mouth. Perfectly seasoned. The ribs were postcard perfect; tender with just the right amount of chewiness and texture. Outstanding. Collard greens, I love this stuff. Just the right amount of seasoning, a gentle kick. But the winner was the cheesy potato rice. Wow! New, yet familiar! Delicious! So, the food is AMAZING. Good value for the money as I got plenty. I’ll be coming for another visit Friday night. Take the AirPods out of your ears and be a bit warmer; I’m a friendly Canadian who means you no harm. Maybe it was because I was hungry. Really, am I *that* intimidating?

I wanted to change it up for dinner and decided to give smokey dunks a try. Wow!!! First of all never had gator before, absolutely delicious!!!!! Ribs were good!! I'm glad we gave them a try! Diffently 2 thumbs up!

First time ordering from Smokey Dunks. It was amazing! We had the rib tips, cheesy corn, cheesy potatoes and coleslaw. The portions were huge and everything was delicious.

As a truck driver stuck in a parking lot for a night, this was a welcome sight and smell. I got the brisket with two sides. Great portion of brisket served open on a bun in case you want a brisket sandwich. And the sides were great! I'm not from the south but I choose the greens which were amazing and had a kick of heat to them which made it even better.
